Virginia Driver's Manual Re-examination Course
DTW Driving School has been approved by Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles as a driver training school and is authorized to offer an eight-hour Virginia Driver's Manual Re-Examination Course. Our classroom Driver's Manual Course is presented on Saturdays or Sundays at our permanent office/classroom at 1735 Summit Avenue, Richmond, VA 23230.
Virginia law requires that every person seeking a driver's license must pass a driver's examination at a DMV office. The test is in two parts: the general knowledge written test and the on-the-road driving test. If you fail either part, you must take that part again until you pass. However, if you fail three times, you cannot take the test again until you successfully complete a course of instruction offered by a driver training school.
For the general knowledge re-examination course, you can either take a 36-hour driver education course (like that offered by to high school students) or an eight-hour driver's manual re-examination program, which is available to all persons at least 19 years or older and to persons under 19 if they previously completed the high-school driver education program. Note: Drive-To-Work, which supports DTW Driving School, suggested amendments to the Virginia Code in 2013 and 2016 which allows for the shorter, eight-hour course.
DTW Driving School's Driver's Manual Re-examination course is offered by qualified and experienced driver education instructors. Our instructors know how to identify educational issues which challenge students, especially when involving testing. They are skilled at teaching not just the material, but also techniques for successful test-taking. While there are no guarantees, those who take this course will definitely improve their chances of passing next time. When you complete the course, you will have up-to-date knowledge of the rules of the road.
Your instructor will manage classroom time, breaks for lunch, etc., so that you can get out on time. Also your instructor will verify your identity as the student who registered for the course, so that proper credit for completion can be transmitted to DMV. The law requires the instructor to certify that you have successfully completed the course. This may be determined by a test or other means at the direction of the instructor. But don't worry — it's not rocket science, and we help you to prepare with short quizzes and completion of a student workbook during the course. You do not have to go to a separate testing site to complete a test.
We will notify you promptly of your graduation and issue a certificate of completion. We report your completion to the DMV. If you experience a problem with completion reporting, please contact one of our friendly customer service representatives at 804-918-6634 or at info@DTWdrivingschool.org.
